The company operates predominantly in the fields of education, health, social funds and urban and regional development.

  • Physical and Project Planning (health and education)
    Inventory, analysis, assessment of existing situations, planning (including school and health mapping), plan development, design and project documentation, cost estimates and budgeting, procurement and tender process, capacity building in project planning and management, institutional development, physical asset management, management information systems, monitoring and evaluation of project implementation for health and education.
  • Social Funds and Micro Projects
    Infrastructure component, including needs assessment, formulation, management information system development and capacity building for monitoring, supervision and evaluation.
  • Urban and Regional Planning
    Planning of housing, social services and public infrastructure, including, regulations and incentive funds, by-laws, and community organisation. Specialised in conservation of cultural heritage.

Group 5's core staff comprise all-round architects and engineers, specialised physical planners for the education and health sectors, urban planners, project managers, maintenance specialists, procurement advisers, and management information system experts. Group 5's associate staff include experts in the field of skill training equipment, medical equipment and furniture, mapping (health, education and poverty), emergency programme management and logistics, and specialised fields such as human resource capacity and training, social sector economics, curriculum development, and physical assets management. In relation to physical assets management Group 5 has been giving increasing input to the further development of the existing software package PLAMAHS for planning, management and maintenance of medical equipment and medical infrastructure. Group 5 has in particular been involved in the design of the infrastructure component within the Plamahs information system.

In addition, Group 5 established a regional office in Nairobi, Kenya in 1994, and has representatives in Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, and Cambodia. Associations exist with international consultancy firms in the Netherlands, Denmark, Luxembourg, England, Germany and Italy, and with national consultancy firms in Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Burkina Faso and Sri Lanka.

One of the Dutch associate companies is HEART consultancy with which Group 5 has been collaborating for more than five years on the planning, management and maintenance of physical assets in the health sector.

 

Background:

Group 5 has been operating as consulting architects and planners in the field of international development cooperation for 20 years. The services Group 5 can provide include architectural and engineering aspects of project preparation and supervision, capacity building, project management and monitoring, institutional development, information systems and procurement. In principle, and to the extent possible, these activities are executed in collaboration with our partners in the recipient countries.
